Teaching

Through the GAANN Fellowship, we will receive training in teaching through our teaching mentors’ guidance and supervision. Every year, a report overviewing our progress must be submitted. Therefore, I will keep track of my progress over time through this page and with additional writings as a way to continuously reflect. As I gain more experience and by the end of this program, I will have developed a teaching portfolio as a way to present my overall learning and growth.

Teaching Philosophy

“We never know which lives we influence, or when, or why.”

Stephen King

I believe that teaching and learning is a constant process both inside and outside of the classroom. While this teaching philosophy is made with the teacher-student relationship in mind, learning and growth happens everywhere – between friends, family, and even complete strangers. We never know whose lives we will influence, or who will end up influencing ours, but I think it is those moments and connections that make life beautiful.

Teaching Experiment Plan

Here I will record the Teaching Experiment Plan for each semester as I progress. There will also be a report at the end of each semester to summarize my overall experiences.

  • Spring 2022

♥ Teach the ITCS 3162 class (Introduction to Data Mining). It is a much larger class (at least 65 students) this semester with TAs to help.
♥ Continue developing my personal website and teaching portfolio.
♥ Attend two CTL (Center for Teaching and Learning) Seminars.

  • Fall 2021

♥ Teach the ITCS 3162 class (Introduction to Data Mining) in Fall ’21.
♥ Continue developing my personal website and teaching portfolio.
♥ Attend two CTL (Center for Teaching and Learning) Seminars and write a report reflecting on what I have learned.

My report reflecting on my experiences can be viewed here.
