Teaching Experiment Plans

Here I will record the Teaching Experiment Plan for each semester as I progress. There will also be a report at the end of each semester to summarize my overall experiences.

  • Fall 2022

    ♥ Teach the ITCS 3162 class (Introduction to Data Mining). We now have 76 students and 3 TAs.
    ♥ Continue developing my personal website and teaching portfolio.

  • Spring 2022

    ♥ Teach the ITCS 3162 class (Introduction to Data Mining). It is a much larger class (at least 65 students) this semester with TAs to help.
    ♥ Continue developing my personal website and teaching portfolio.
    ♥ Attend two CTL (Center for Teaching and Learning) Seminars.

  • Fall 2021

    ♥ Teach the ITCS 3162 class (Introduction to Data Mining) in Fall ’21.
    ♥ Continue developing my personal website and teaching portfolio.
    ♥ Attend two CTL (Center for Teaching and Learning) Seminars and write a report reflecting on what I have learned.

  • Spring 2021

    ♥ Co-teach the ITCS 3162 class (Introduction to Data Mining) in Spring ’21.
    ♥ As a part of co-teaching: (1) develop activities for the students to get hands-on experience with the data mining process and related tools, (2) provide various lectures and in-class activities, (3) proctor exams, (4) grade exams and projects, and (5) conduct problem sessions outside of class.
    ♥ Complete my fourth teaching seminar course: ITSC 8665.
    ♥ Continue developing my personal website and teaching portfolio.
    ♥ Attend two CTL (Center for Teaching and Learning) Seminars and write a report reflecting on what I have learned.

  • Fall 2020

    ♥ Give a guest lecture in ITCS 6150/8150 class (Intelligent Systems) on Introduction to Data Mining.
    ♥ Prepare to co-teach the ITCS 3162 class (Introduction to Data Mining) in Spring ’21.
    ♥ Conduct problem sessions in ITCS 6150/8150.
    ♥ Complete another teaching seminar course: ITSC 8665.
    ♥ Continue developing my personal website and teaching portfolio.
    ♥ Attend two CTL (Center for Teaching and Learning) Seminars and write a report reflecting on what I have learned.

  • Spring 2020

    ♥ Get more experience with the course website management system.
    ♥ Conduct problem sessions (for the ITCS 6162 course).
    ♥ Complete another teaching seminar course: ITSC 8665.
    ♥ Continue developing my personal website and teaching portfolio.
    ♥ Attend one CTL (Center for Teaching and Learning) Seminar and write a report reflecting on what I have learned.

    This semester’s requirements have been changed due to COVID-19.

    ♥ Learn how to use a course website management system (specifically Canvas).
    ♥ Complete the teaching seminar course: ITSC 8665.
    ♥ Develop an initial version of my personal website and teaching portfolio.
    ♥ Attend at least one CTL Seminar (The Center for Teaching and Learning) and write a short report reflecting on what I have learned.
